CIVIL CEREMONY AT ISLINGTON TOWN HALL

When Glamour UK’s website director and author Ali Patony married her long-term partner Timi Oluwole at Islington Town Hall, she brought together everything that defines modern bridal fashion — sustainability, style, and sentiment. Their civil ceremony was effortlessly cool and deeply personal; a prelude to their later celebration at Ripple Court Estate, which I also had the joy of photographing.

A VOGUE-WORTHY Take on MODERN BRIDALWEAR

As Ali told Vogue UK;

“There was also no doubt in mind that I would be wearing a bridal suit, not a dress.”

Drawing inspiration from Bianca Jagger, she chose a vintage Chanel trouser suit discovered on Vestiaire Collective — a buttery-cream two-piece from Karl Lagerfeld’s 2003 Cruise Collection.

The choice exuded timelessness, sustainable luxury, and quiet confidence.

SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING NEW

The look was completed with a veiled headband designed by Ali herself in collaboration with VV Rouleaux, a beloved Marylebone haberdashery, and a Clio Peppiatt Petal Bag rented via By Rotation.

“I wanted something second-hand, as it would feel like my outfit had more of a story to it,” Ali told Vogue.

Timi, meanwhile, wore a modern, understated, green Hugo Boss suit that perfectly complemented Ali’s ensemble.

THE ICONIC LONDON CEREMONY

Ali and Timi’s civil ceremony took place at Islington Town Hall, a much-loved North London venue famed for its marble staircase, high ceilings, and timeless architecture. Despite having photographed countless weddings here, I’m always moved by the unique story each couple brings to this hall.

A NORTH LONDON LOVE STORY

The setting held special meaning as the couple first met in North London. Living just streets apart, they later discovered they’d grown up only half an hour from each other in Kent. It felt fitting to hold their ceremony where their story began.

Details That Matter

Ali’s engagement ring was passed down through generations of her family, and she carried a handmade bouquet charm in memory of her father, who is cared for in a dementia facility in Maidstone.

ARTISANAL DYE TO BRING THE LOOK TOGETHER

Ali worked with Mariana Leyva of Studio Kühiü in Camden, who hand-dyed her lace-trimmed cami top and silk scarf using natural dyes made from jasmine, tree bark, and mulberry. This artisanal approach gave her bridal look tonal harmony that tied each element with the Chanel suit.

After the ceremony, we took portraits outside the hall, framed by Islington’s Georgian terraces and the iconic red London buses. These images are a celebration of the place that brought these two together.

as seen in The Telegraph

As The Telegraph noted in its feature on “The Stylish Rise of the Low-Key Bride,”

“the modern bride is getting hitched at the registry office in a high-street number.”

With the rise of destination weddings, many couples are intentionally choosing intimate town hall ceremonies to begin their wedding journey. For Ali and Timi, it was important that their symbolic ceremony be conducted later by the pastor of Timi’s church, surrounded by loved ones.

Post-Ceremony celebration

After the legal ceremony, Ali and Timi celebrated with their closest friends and family at a local pub. Sometimes, the most meaningful celebrations are often the simplest.

The Celebration Continues

The couple later celebrated with a larger gathering at Ripple Court Estate in Kent. Click the button below to view their spectacular celebration.
